Bedouin
Ascent : Junk
Force EP : noep.01 : 5
tracks : released 11/01 : £3.00
vinyl / £4.00 cdr
Kingsuk Biswas continues his no-fi games with rhythms so irrational
they playfully tease the linear structure of sequenced music to
produce the exquisite effect of perpetual rolling. Spiralling
currents pulled by ever tighter forces in an open field of possibility.
Turning, turning... Lost forever in the loving warmth of urban
noise and the sweetest tension.
While the whole of the dance arena concerns itself with the mechanical
rhythm of propulsion - like drones synched to a universal clock,
locked in constant forward motion - junk_force adopts a wholly
lateral stance. Beats spiral, moving, at once, forward, sideways
and backwards - like the adrenalin rush of a brisk young breeze,
constantly changing direction - because there's just so much sky!
Change is, ultimately, the only constant. |

Bedouin
Ascent : Science,
Art & Ritual : RSN27 : 8
tracks : released 11/94 : £10
First play rattles the cages and abandons any sense of complacency
in moments. These are hard sounds, fierce drums, acidic squelches,
and intricate cymbal patterns, juxtaposed with a degree of thought
and imagination that could only have been dreamed of twelve
months ago. Second play unsettles even more, leaving deep ruptures
with it's use of African, Gamelan and Eastern textures. CDs
and double vinyl now sold out, however high quality CDR reprints
are available to order. |

Bedouin
Ascent : Music For Particles : RSN37 : 11
tracks : released 11/95 : £10
11 tracks of crystaline UK techno from one of the true pioneers
of the genre. Syncopated cuts and slices locked in immaculate
freestyle jams. CDs
and double vinyl now sold out, however high quality CDR reprints
are available to order.
"Eschewing techno's four/four stomp, Bedouin weaves a mesmerising
mesh of drum machine percussion, achieving the kind of body-confounding
polyrhythmic density you otherwise only find in drum'n bass; meanwhile,
melody is restricted to the sparest filigrees of arpeggiated synth.
Somewhere between electro starkness and Brazilian shimmy, Music
For Particles is maxi-minimalism at its best." [SIMON REYNOLDS]

Ascent : Further Self Evident Truths : RSN102 : 5
tracks : released 04/95 : £4.00
"Brimming with sumptuous sounds over a raw and disjointed
backing to really atmospheric effect. Begins with clicky, bleepy
bass before waves of analogue sound; the astonishing attention
to detail that is the hallmark of Bedouin Ascent comes to the
foreground - and you realise as EP is ending, just how clever
this man really is!"

Ascent : Pavilion Of The New Spirit : RSN84 : 6
tracks : released 08/94 : £4.00
Awesome
techno-jazz'n'ambience from the brilliant Biswas that obliterates
most of this month's music. This will surely boost his growing
reputation as one of the UK's most creative technocrats."
[MixMaster morris].
"Free spirited music which certainly isn't afraid to tread
new ground. This would surely appeal to anyone who respects the
sort of pioneering stance adopted by the like's of Weather Report
and Miles Davis in the 70s. Funky, avant garde, experimental 90s
mutant jazz, this is brave, unsettling, uncompromising music."
Vinyl
now sold out, however high quality CDR reprints are available to order. |

Bedouin
Ascent : Reconnect the Thread : RSN42 : 4
tracks : released 12/92 : £4.00
The enigmatc debut release from Bedouin Ascent, way back in 1992.
Now an absolute classic. Adventurously minimal Techno with a
strong Acid undertow. Vinyl
now sold out, however high quality CDR reprints are available to order.
"A very pretty four track debut playing around with ambient
melodies, trance beats and muted breaks. Subtle and complex, the
tunes build, flow and merge with sufficient intelligence to make
repeated listenings a valuable experience. There are gorgeous
washes of melody, faint Eatern voices, dubby warps, pipes and
a strong selection of carefully chosen minimal details. Great
for the more experimental floors and homes, an incredible debut!"
